Walk for Walton this May

Walk for Walton is back! Join our virtual event where we ask our amazing supporters to walk 100,000 steps across the month of May.

Spring is the perfect time of year to dust off those walking shoes and get out there in the sunny (fingers crossed...) British weather. Or maybe you already do a lot of steps every day at work, or by walking with your canine friend, or spending time at the gym? However you choose to walk the 100,000 steps, do it in the knowledge that every step taken is helping a great cause.

Home from Home relatives’ accommodation 

You’ll be helping us to raise funds to support our Home from Home relatives’ accommodation, ensuring families can stay close to loved ones who are undergoing life-saving treatment at The Walton Centre hospital.  

Lee and Noah Hawksworth were one of the first families to stay in the Home from Home accommodation. Maria, Lee’s wife and Noah’s mum, was diagnosed with a brain tumour in 2015 while 33 weeks pregnant and delivered Noah three weeks later. Two months after that, the tumour was removed in a 15-hour operation at The Walton Centre. 

“Without Home from Home it would have meant that Lee was travelling three hours each day to see me. The Home from Home gave Noah and Lee somewhere to rest and just knowing they were on site made me feel tonnes better. I can’t imagine how we’d have coped without Home from Home.” - Maria

The Home from Home is provided free to families who need it, thanks to our charity supporters. It costs approximately £50,000 per year to run the unit.

Wherever you are, you can take part in Walk for Walton! The entry fee is £10 per person to help cover our costs and you’ll receive one of our branded Walk for Walton T-shirts and a nice shiny medal for your efforts.
