On June 3^rd this year, Irish Olympic eventer Jonty Evans fell from his horse during the Tattersalls International Horse Trials in county Meath.  He was taken to Dublin’s Beaumont Hospital and then on to the Connolly Hospital with a significant brain injury, and remained in a coma there for 6 weeks.  His family were told to expect the worst.

But Jonty defied all odds and regained consciousness at the end of July, after which intensive physio, language and speech therapy sessions saw him improve enough to be transferred to The Walton Centre for further treatment – our hospital is recognised nationally as a Centre of Excellence for its rehabilitation network approach.

“I was in a coma for six weeks, and doctors in Ireland said I was probably not going to wake up.  All the therapists say I’m doing remarkably well, and although I know I still have a long way to go, my ultimate aim is to get back on a horse again! Rehabilitation will be crucial to achieving this, and I am therefore completely behind The Walton Centre’s ambition to develop this service using innovative approaches and the most advanced and up to date technology available. I will support this aspiration in any way I can!”
